Singing in Dark Times [Chicago]

  • 57th Street Books (map)

In the dark times, will there also be singing?
Yes, there will be singing.

About the dark times.
- Bertolt Brecht

As the public is being steadily eroded and eclipsed, and as neoliberalism persists and fascism lurks close by, we who believe in freedom have a special responsibility to reimagine, revitalize, and create anew a public square, a public presence, and a wide range of participatory public spaces. Beginning December 12, 57th Street Bookstore will host a monthly public conversation focussed on current events and this political moment. “Singing in Dark Times” will be led by a handful of Chicago writers in dialogue with one another and, then, with whatever citizens and residents show up. Please join us for our initial conversation, featuring Eve Ewing, Rachel DeWoskin, Kevin Coval, and Bill Ayers.
